Hell Can Wait is a dark, character-driven story about Marcus Smith, a fifteen-year-old boy trying to survive a life that has never given him a real chance. At Jefferson High, Marcus has learned to stay invisible to avoid constant bullying from Derek and his crew. At home, things aren’t any better—his foster mother is distant and neglectful, leaving Marcus to fend for himself in a quiet, empty apartment. The only bright spot in his life is Tasha, a classmate who shows him genuine kindness and reminds him that he isn’t completely alone.

Everything begins to change when a mysterious object crashes into Morrison Park. Drawn by curiosity, Marcus discovers a strange necklace at the center of the impact site and takes it with him, hoping—like in the stories he’s read—that it might be something more than it seems. At first, it appears to be nothing special, just another disappointment in a long line of them.
